"Birth of Pleasure" is an erotic disco-ballet narrative short film which addresses eroticism, based on the writings of Audre Lorde, as a means for women to reclaim joy in their jobs, relationships and identities with the goal to combat symbolic and literal pornographic ideas of beauty and sensuality.  The balance of a fantastical, dream-like narrative and the authentic embodied experience of seven dancers, “Birth of Pleasure” captures the mood and spirit of sanctuaries and fortresses. The film thoughtfully depicts nurturing and complex relationships between women.    "Birth of Pleasure" is an adaptation of a live-performance "Sanctuaries & Fortresses" by Anicka Austin.
